The Role

Reporting to the Chair of PS Kenya Board of Directors, the CEO is accountable to the Board of Directors for the overall performance and health of the organisation. This is a dynamic and experienced leader with the ability to take charge of all strategic and business aspects of the organisation, and provide inspiring leadership to a dedicated team of employees dedicated to helping Kenyans make healthy choices. Key responsibilities include enhancing the financial health of the organisation, aligning programme to strategy, harnessing the power of social enterprise, leveraging relationships with national and county governments, and donors, and expanding partnerships to improve the health of all Kenyans.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy: Lead the development and execution of the strategic plan, ensuring all milestones in the strategy scorecard and well aligned to financial, human, and infrastructure resources.


Resource Mobilisation: Lead the execution of organisational resource mobilisation strategy to ensure the financial health of the organisation, including program design, proposal development, proactive co-creation of ideas with funders, decision-making of new investments, partnership formation, and budgeting.


Leadership: Assign key corporate responsibilities to each of the department directors, enabling a high-performance culture while creating alignment toward the achievement of strategic and organisational goals.


Stakeholder Engagement: Represent, advocate for PS Kenya to partners and stakeholders, including NGOs, multi-lateral organisations, donors and national and local (county) level governments, and maintain strong external relations.


Programme: Lead in converting ideas, concepts, and strategies into programmatic reality and spearhead strategic thinking in partnership with senior management towards superior execution of programme projects within stakeholders’ requirements.


Finance: Co-lead the development and overall management of program budgets while overseeing internal controls and accountability mechanisms. Identify opportunities for increased efficiencies, cost-effectiveness, and best value for money while ensuring effective use and coordination of donor resources and the compliance of the financial systems and controls with relevant donor standards.


Social Enterprise Initiatives: Working with the Head of Social Enterprise, identify strategic opportunities that address market needs with social business approaches toward a financially healthy enterprise that fit to deliver social impact.


Compliance: Ensuring program compliance to local laws, regulations, audit requirements and risk management plans, financial and other reporting requirements as mandated by the government, donors, or other regulators.

Person Specifications

The ideal candidate will have a business mindset with good exposure in the health sector and will be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings. In particular he/she will have:


Academic Qualifications

Both a Master’s level and Bachelor’s level degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Strategic Management, Communications, Marketing or Public Health.


Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience in Business Management, Public Health, or Marketing, four (4) of which must be at senior management level.

  • Experience in healthcare business management, health marketing, financial management, and community development, with familiarity with diverse business functions such as sales and marketing, finance, human resources, and supply chain. Experience in public relations and communications will be an added advantage.

  • In-depth working knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practice.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with donors/development partners in health and a deep understanding of the health systems and service delivery context in Kenya.

  • Experience in new business development, developing profitable strategies, and implementing vision.

  • Ability to network, mobilise and deploy resources strategically to ensure a financially healthy organisation.

  • Strategic thinker, with good commercial acumen, with the ability to identify and capitalise on suitable business opportunities in a changing environment.

  • An outstanding communicator with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, and ability to build strong relationships, network, negotiate and create alignment across interests of diverse stakeholders.

  • Good analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, social awareness, and good decision-making skills.

  • An enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic, and dynamic hands-on individual, with a sense of urgency, attention to detail, and unquestionable integrity.

  • An adept manager of processes with strong organisational, planning, prioritisation, and execution skills with demonstrated ability to drive change and transformation.

  • Governance experience including working with or regularly interacting with a Board.
