The Client

Our client is a Kenyan based leading human rights non-governmental organisation advocating for fairness and justice, and has done incredible work since inception over 10 years ago. The client is looking for a dynamic leader to take up the position of Executive Director to deliver its ambitious strategy by addressing key issues aligned to its mission.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair of the Board, this role provides visionary leadership to all staff, and is accountable for overall performance of the organisation. Key responsibilities of include;


Strategic Leadership

  • Collaboratively leading the development and execution of the organisation's strategy to deliver its mission effectively.

  • Leading the engagement of all internal and external stakeholders to achieve impact, enabling all to play their role towards realisation of the organisation’s vision.

  • Providing leadership in the organisation’s financial health including exploring new funding models to sustain revenues for critical work and advance its mission

  • A bold, self-aware leader with a heart for servant leadership, with ability to inspiring confidence in the organisation’s work.


Program Oversight

  • Ability to provide programmatic oversight on strategic activities, to ensure all key results are delivered on a timely manner.

  • Highly knowledgeable on donor trends and actively promotes the organisation's work to key organisation's to effectively resource all programmatic work and maximise impact.

  • Explores ways to advance the organisations work by identifying and embracing innovations that enhance effectiveness in delivery of all aspects of work.


Partnerships, Resources and Sustainability

  • Identifies and leads key resource mobilisation initiatives to provide financial cover needed to deliver the organisation’s strategic plan and beyond.

  • A passionate ambassador of the organisation to external stakeholders, ensuring the agenda of the organisation remains top of mind within preferred partners, donors, governments, civil society and the public.

  • As the key spokesperson for the organisations, models its values and culture internally and externally.


Performance & Quality Assurance

  • Has overall responsibility for organisational performance, ensuring every piece of work is undertaken with excellence and integrity.

  • Ensures effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all programs.

  • Updates the Board on strategic activities.

  • Serves as an ex-official member of the Board.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The suitable candidate will hold a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, and demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas;


  • Ten years senior non-profit management experience with ability to lead and inspire teams to deliver.

  • Governance experience and skill in working with boards.

  • High-level strategic thinking and planning, with ability to envision and convey the organisation’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.

  • Ability to effectively communicate the organisation’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.

  • Active fundraising experience with excellent donor relations and networking skills

  • Evidence in establishing relationships with individuals and organisations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.

  • Solid organisational abilities sound financial oversight, planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; and strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
