Potterhouse is an International School established in Nairobi in 2002 in Runda, Nairobi that teaches in the International Curriculum for Kindergarten, Primary and High School. Founded under sound biblical and Christian values, the school offers quality education to its pupils, focusing on academic, spiritual and social needs to equip them for life in a fast and changing world. In alignment to strategic trajectory of the school, the Board of Directors has created the position of Head of School and are looking for a qualified and experienced leader to fill this new position. The overall responsibility of this role is: to provide leadership to the faculty and students; creating alignment with other stakeholders including parents, regulators and the local community. The Head of School is accountable to the Board of Directors.
Key responsibilities include:
Day to day operations of the school including ensuring physical and psychological safety of students and the faculty; overseeing finances and budgets and all other logistics necessary for smooth operations.
Ensuring the school provides high-quality education based on sound Christian principles, with an eye on continuous improvement based on research and best practice in the sector.
Provide sound leadership to faculty, students and other stakeholders, modelling the values and philosophy the school is anchored on and holding others to account where necessary.
Overseeing overall performance of the faculty and academic performance of students to position the school as a leader in providing quality education, spiritual growth and social needs.
Ensuring compliance to all regulations and representing school in external engagements fostering the right partnerships beneficial to the school community.
Ensuring the school has up to date policies to guide teachers and students as necessary; that student records are maintained and updated.
Ensure the school is well resourced with qualified and diverse faculty – selected competitively – and well enabled to perform their tasks.
Create an empowering environment for teachers and students to thrive; resolve conflicts fairly and promptly.
Prepare quality reports and regular information required by the Board for updates and decision making.
Research new ways and techniques to improve learning; attract students and retain faculty.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Education with post graduate qualification and a teaching license. A Masters will be a definite advantage.
A committed and practicing Christian. A person of integrity and committed to the vision, mission, philosophy and core values of the School.
Experience in heading a school or at senior role with broad responsibilities.
Knowledge of school administrative processes and national and international educational regulations.
At ease with technology – with hands on experience in education management systems.
Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
Demonstrable leadership skills in leading diverse teams through envisioning, building relationships, creating alignment, nurturing talent and risk management.
Demonstrable ability to build and sustain relationships across different demographics.
